In-Car Driving Lessons

Learn to drive with Newport County Driving School. We work on building the new driver's confidence as well as the skills needed to perform well on the DMV road test. We can even do a practice run of the actual test.

  • You must have a valid Learner's Permit to take behind-the-wheel driving lessons.
  • Most insurance companies require six hours or more of formal behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a discount.
  • We provide public pick-up and drop-off location services for drive times (unless otherwise specified).
  • We have drive times available seven days a week (morning, afternoon, and evening). A 24-hour notice is required for the cancelation of drive times, or a $50 fee may be assessed. You must cancel any lessons by logging into your account

Driving lesson time slots are posted every first and third Monday at 9 AM of each month. We only put online two weeks at a time. Please note your drop-off and pick-up locations when scheduling.

Please Note: If you are interested in purchasing multiple packages, the RI permit requires classroom instruction first. Please enroll in the classroom of your choice. If you already have your RI permit, you can now enroll in one of the behind-the-wheel instruction packages. If you are interested in both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, please note that you must enroll and pay for each service separately.

  • Behind-the-Wheel (4 Hrs.) + Road Test Practice | $460

    • 4 Behind-the-Wheel Driving Lessons (1 hour each)
    • Road Test Practice on our closed course in Portsmouth prior to exam.
    • Use of car for DMV Exam - We will need to be notified of Test Date/Time
    • Certificate of Completion
    We would prefer you to have scheduled your DMV Road Test between 8 AM - 11 AM for us to accommodate you. We understand if you have an afternoon road
    test scheduled.  Please confirm with us the Date, Time and Location (A or B) of your Road Test as soon as possible (text us 401-612-6237).

    *NEW DRIVERS* Are strongly encouraged to have at least 10 hours practice before starting lessons. If less than 10, please call us to discuss best remedies to benefit use of our lessons. 401-612-6237.  Also, in between lessons we strongly recommend practicing 10 - 15 hours with parents or someone who has been driving more than 5 years. Practicing what you learned in these lessons are very important in order to be successful on your road test.

    • 6 Behind-the-Wheel Driving Lessons (1 hour each)
    • Road Test Practice in on our closed course in Portsmouth prior to exam

    You MUST have a minimum of 10 hours of driving experience to enroll in this service

  • Behind-the-Wheel (6 Hours) | $430

    Benefit from six private one-hour behind-the-wheel driving lessons. Build your confidence as you practice real-world driving scenarios. Each lesson is tailored to your skill level and customized to help you pass your road test.

    This package does not include time on our practice course. If you would like to convert one of the driving lessons to a course lesson, there is an additional $50.00 charge.

  • Two Test Practices and use of our car for DMV Exam | $280

    This package includes two road test practices on our closed course in Portsmouth. Our course is run on Saturdays and Sundays ONLY. This package is designed for competent drivers that need to go through the course practice only. This package does not include any lessons on the road and does not include a certificate of completion that can be given to your car insurance provider for a discount. We suggest you utilize our other packages with road lessons for the certificate and extra practice. Please contact us to set up the necessary lessons and inform us as to the RI-DMV Road Test date, time and location (Course A or B).
